Door Duty

The Edinburgh Jazz & Jive Club thrives on the support of our volunteers.

Want to get involved?

Volunteering for door duty is a fantastic way to:

  • Enjoy free entry to Friday nights *
  • Meet fellow jazz and dance enthusiasts
  • Contribute to the vibrant club atmosphere
What does door duty involve?
  • Welcoming guests
  • Accepting payments (card or cash)
  • Selling raffle tickets during the first band break
  • Cashing up before the start of the third set
  • Preparing for the raffle draw during the middle session

During the first set, you'll be the friendly face welcoming everyone – a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and be part of creating a welcoming atmosphere right from the start! You might even sneak in a little dance yourself while keeping an eye on the door.

The first break is a lively time, selling raffle tickets and adding to the fun of the evening. It's a great way to interact with everyone!

During the second set, you'll play a vital role in getting the raffle ready and cashing up – it's all part of making the night a success.

During the second interval, one of you will help with the raffle draw, which is always fun!

Once your door duty is done, you can fully relax and immerse yourself in the joy of the third set, whether that's hitting the dance floor or simply enjoying the music.

Just so you know, if you have evening commitments, like catching a bus, you'll definitely be finished with your door duties by 10pm (usually by 9:15/9:30pm), allowing you to enjoy most of the evening.

We always work in pairs on door duty, so if you're new to this, don't hesitate! We'll team you up with an experienced volunteer who can show you the ropes, making it a fun and easy way to get involved. Volunteering is a fantastic way to contribute to our community, meet new friends, and enjoy a great night of music and dancing from a unique perspective. We really appreciate our volunteers' help in making these evenings happen!

*Not only do you get free entry on the night, but you also get a free pass for any future Jazz 'n Jive event!!
