Swing Dance/Enjoy Jazz in Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Jazz ‘n’ Jive Club was founded over 20 years ago as a means of providing local bands with somewhere to play on a regular basis.

The aims of the Club are to promote the enjoyment of live jazz in all its forms whilst at the same time providing a platform for local bands to play on a regular basis. The Club programme features local bands each Friday with, occasionally, a visiting band.

This is the place to be to listen/dance to excellent jazz always played by a live band. You will find a very welcoming atmosphere and a bar.

You will find people dancing swing, lindyhop, collegiate shag, balboa, foxtrot.
If you look at the dancers in the picture here you will see:
balboa (foreground left and centre),  a bit of foxtrot (on the right), under the ‘Investec’ sign, that looks like lindyhop and in-between the 2 balboas, it looks like possibly another foxtrot (left) and certainly a charleston (right). This really is a typical evening and also a typical age range.

This is the ideal Edinburgh venue if, for instance, you have done some dance classes and want to improve. One really only improves by social dancing and the character of the club is very much to just ask. Don’t feel you have to turn up with a partner, don’t feel you have to be experienced (after all, we all had to start somewhere). Just turn up and ask.

If you’re experienced, then that is great too.

The evening is divided into 3 sets with a raffle held in the second break – it’s all part of the great social atmosphere of the club.
